Cascadian Farm Organic Goodness

OK, we’ll admit it; when we first saw this FarmVille game on Facebook that our friends, kids, and even grandkids were playing, we didn’t know what to think! Growing crops on Facebook? But then we gave it a try and we’ll let you in on a little secret…we got hooked! Some of us played so much that it became hard to focus on our real crops. So, long story short, our marketing-type people got together with FarmVille's marketing-type people, and we now have an exciting announcement to make:

Cascadian Farm Organic Blueberries will be available to plant in FarmVille!

We've always worked with farmers to convert conventional farmland into organic acreage, and now we're doing the same thing...only in FarmVille. For those of you who are already playing, you'll be able to plant our organic blueberries beginning July 19, 2010. If you're not playing FarmVille, we would love for you to check out the game and plant your own little virtual organic blueberry farm!

Over the next month, we'll have some fun FarmVille activities happening on Facebook. You can RSVP to join the fun, and even check out Farmer Joe’s virtual farm. We'd love to hear about what you're growing — whether it's online, in your garden, or on an actual farm, the kind with real dirt (”IRL”, as our kids would say). Post your stories and photos to the event’s wall.

We're not sure what's next, but we sure are having fun so far. We're so glad to have you as a part of our online community, and we hope you enjoy growing some Cascadian Farm Organic Blueberries on FarmVille!

Good evening, There is one thing that everybody is forgetiing "Connect ing the world through games' is a nice slogan and I really enjoy playing Farmville with people all over the world. But why are some of these promotions only for the US? I live in Holland and many, many people play this game and hear about this but can never join.

I think the word filter that's been added recently is a little overboard. It's bleeping out words like "s h o u l d' and "w h o" (anything with a "h-o" or an "f-u" in it) and "o r g a n i c" (which is laughable given what this company sells) - making it look like people are swearing when they aren't.

I, too, have been unable to plant this as it is not in my seed option in the market. I have written Zynga about this and have gotten no response as of yet. I want to earn the mastery sign and time is running out. So, everyone else here that is frustrated, I sincerely feel you pain.

I really hope you didn't pay Zynga anything for this promotion. You should see the number of threads and comments on the official Farmville forums relating to this mess. According to the polls around half the people responding do not have the organic blueberries and the people who do have issues with them repeatedly vanishing from their market. It would be wonderful if Zynga could give their players a straight answer on who should be able to access this promotion. There are some rumours that it's US only but I have several friends outside the US who can plant them and several within the US, myself included, who can not. Because of this communication failure on your part as well as Zynga's I will not be recommending your blueberries to anyone. In fact I'd tell people to steer clear because if this is your level of competency and these are the sort of people you're prepared to work with then there's no way I'd eat anything with your name on it.

Well I believe it is not neccesary to make a complain about this, Im very upset. All farmers want to be able to plant this seed and master it, so I think the important thing to ask is this: Are going to do anything about that, or you will just stand and do nothing?!!!!!!

I'm sure nobody wanted this to happen, and maybe some patience is in order.... Yes having these comments addressed promptly would be ideal, and would do a lot to help the situation, but constructive criticism is useful, getting angry achieves nothing.

Totally_astonished says:

Having Xynga screw up your promo is one thing, but totally ignoring it here on your site when people you don't know have taken the TIME to express their opinion is an outrage. I hope you don't sell a single fk'n berry and I'll be sure to pass along my thoughts about your company to everyone I see. Any company that offers a comment section but doesn't bother to monitor customer comments nor offer any reply is just another waste of capital and should FAIL! Just so you know, I will not being buying any of your parent companies products either. I vote with my wallet.

Anna says:

What a terrible outcome to what could have been a really good promotion. So many annoyed and frustrated customers of both Zynga and Cascadian Farms - is that really what you were aiming for? I highly doubt it. Worse than not having the berries available in the market is the complete and utter lack of communication from either company regarding the issues.

7/20/2010 11:34:06 PM

Ana Nunez says:

The current promotion between Cascadian Farm Organic Blueberries and Zynga/FarmVille has been handled extremely badly. Zynga's player base, in and out of the USA - your existing or potential customers - are irritated beyond reason by the way the organic blueberry crop has been released to only a fraction of the players, but especially by the complete lack of communication or even acknowledgement from Zynga regarding the issue. We haven't been officially told whether or not the promotion is available outside the US. Many people outside the US have been able to plant them, while many people within the US have not. The people without the berries are left wondering whether or not we are ever going to get them and Zynga appears to have adopted a "deaf ears" policy. The whole business has left a very unpleasant taste in a lot of people's mouths. Be careful who you related your trademark with.....at this moment, your joint venture with Zynga has not been a smart move for your company... Greeti ngs from México! Ana

Bella Harrison says:

I too have been locked out of this promotion by farmville, and I am also very angry at the extreme lack of communication from Zynga. I think that like others have said, this will do your company more harm than good. I have seen two groups now, who are actually organizing a boycott of your products. Although I do understand that zynga's poor handling of this situation is not your fault, I will be inclined to join the boycot if you stand by silently, as zynga is doing. I am sorry that your company has gotten caught in the middle of this..especially if you actually paid zynga anything. Like others have pointed out, they did not even release a statement about this promotion. I think that your company is in a position to help with the problems around this campaign..if nothing else if to insist that zynga update it's players who have been excluded as to whether or not they will ever be allowed to participate..then we can all decide if we want to continue with this game or not. I think it is in your best interest to get involved on behalf of your consumers.

I love FarmVille, I love blueberries and I love visiting the US. And to have a "real" product available on FarmVille is an excellent idea. But as much as I'd like to plant your blueberries on my Farmville farm... I can't. From what I understood because I live in Germany and not in the US. That's not fair. Farmville is being played internationally... Farming without borders... so of course I feel badly excluded from this event. Well, maybe potential future customers in Europe aren't that interesting... As somebody else already said: it's doing your company more harm than good - seen from an international perspective. Best regards from Germany!

When I saw your promotion I considered it to promote my own product. But after the dismal handling of this promotion by Xynga, I'll pass. I am in the USA, and 5 accounts are accessed through my PC. 4 accounts created and used by americans CAN'T see or plant the organic berries, but one account created in the Philippines CAN access the berries. And as I said, this is all from the same PC, same browser, same everything. You should demand your money back from Xynga. It has alienated more customers than it has created.

Donna says:

I also planted some of your organic blueberries in Farmville...and buy organic when my pocketbook allows..I try my best for my Grandchildren, because I hate to see them ingest all the pesticides in regular blueberries and strawberries. Rachel loves blueberries, straight from the container...I never saw a kid eat them that way, but she sure does love her blueberries! I was hoping to find a low sugar or no sugar jam to make them, but haven't seen any in your recipes...maybe someone will put one in there...that would be great...and thanks so much for your product, I sure appreciate it! Donna from Los Angeles!

So sad, i can't see your product in my FarmVille market screen. So confusing, why my friend can have it and i cannot have it in my FarmVille. I feel so unfair and cheated!

I heard about your company through FarmVille. I hope that you did not pay for this advertising as it has so far been a waste of your money. I would like to agree with and support Chantal's comments. Zynga has not handled this promotion well at all. There has been NO announcement through their official forums or Facebook page, and customer support members are giving conflicting information to anyone contacting them.

Planted Blueberries on Farmville -- thanks. I will enjoy trying the real thing. Fun idea to introduce your farm.

Chantal says:

Hello, This promotion would have been nice, if it worked. However, Zynga is doing a terrible job at promoting your product. Not only is a big part of the playerbase unable to use the special blueberries because they are absent in their game, Zynga refuses to update on the specifics. There are a lot of angry and confused people out there who want to know if they will be available to US residents only or not. The first release was over 24 hours ago and still no clarification. This is doing your company more harm than good, especially if it turns out to be a US-only promotion. Just thought you should know. Kind regards, Chantal (resident of the Netherlands)
