Cascadian Farm Organic Goodness

Proud to Support: The Organic Farming Research Foundation

For the last 37 years, we’ve been proud to deliver quality food that’s certified organic and guaranteed delicious. We started out with a little farm in the Skagit Valley of Washington, selling our berries and jams at the Pike Place Market in Seattle. Since then, we’ve expanded quite a bit and now sell our fruits, vegetables, cereals, bars, and other products in co-ops and grocery stores across the country. Over the years, our commitment to producing and sourcing delicious organic ingredients, grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, has never wavered.

One resource that has been essential to Cascadian Farm and our farming partners is the Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF). OFRF’s mission is to “foster the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems.” They do this by sponsoring organic research projects funded through their grant- making program. They also distribute the findings of these projects to organic farmers and conventional growers who are interested in converting their farms to organic. Ultimately, OFRF strives to convert more farm land into organic acres through the education of farmers, the public, and government agencies.

Cascadian Farm has supported OFRF since its inception in 1990. Working together, we’ve seen thousands of acres of land converted from conventional farms to organic farm systems — saving literally tons of chemicals from ending up in our rivers, lakes, and ecosystems. In addition, OFRF provides resources and information to help farmers achieve higher yields, lower pest and disease levels, and run profitable organic farms.

“Personally, I have worked with Gene Kahn, Cascadian Farm’s founder, and his team for decades. More recently, we have worked together on policy-related issues, shared research-related results, and supported the free exchange of ideas among the men and women of the organic farming industry. Cascadian Farm has supported OFRF since the day it was founded.”

-Bob Scowcroft, Executive Director, OFRF

Does Cascdian farms use any GMO's?

8/7/2010 2:37:20 PM

Cascadian Farm says:

Hi Sharon! Thanks for your question. You're not the only one who is curious about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). You'll notice the USDA's "Certified Organic" seal on our products. Certified organic means that GMO crops have not been used. The USDA organic standards board does not allow for any GMO crops to be used in organic agriculture. A farmer using GMO seeds would not be able to use the USDA certified organic seal. Hope that helps! Thanks, -Cascadian Farm

Do you know of any grants that could help us get an organic farm started in Alabama? Or any programs? We so want to eat organic all the time, but here where we live, it is hard to find organic products and then they are so much more expensive than other products. Any advice? Thanks... *** Bless!! I HAVE BEEN EJOYING YOUR CASCADIAN FARM ORGANICE CEREAL, ESPECIALLY THE MAPLE BROWN SUGAR GRANOLA, AND IT HAS BECOME MY FULL TIME BREAKFAST CEREAL. I ENJOY EATING IT STRAIGHT FROM THE BOX WITH NO MILK. THE FRESHNESS IS VERY REFRESHING.

Our family loves the Cinnamon Crunch cereal and the granolas, esp. the Maple Brown Sugar. It is great on top of plain or vanilla organic yogurt and berries. Since having learned about the push for farms to use GMO's, we are more determined to support organics. Thanks for helping by providing very tasty, and somewhat reasonably affordable, organics products!

I just purchased your organic asparagus cuts and when I got home I realized that in very small print that the vegetable is a product of China. I am disappointed and do not intend to purchase your products again.

I was thrilled to discover edamame soybeans in the pod. Your Cascadian logo looked so fresh and ********. However, I notice in the small print that your product is from China. I do not trust anything organic from China as I have heard their water is full of toxic pollutants like arsenic. Why can't YOU grow edamame beans?
