I am a light shade of green.
I have not arrived, but I am on the journey towards a “greener” lifestyle. Yet in all honesty, sometimes I get overwhelmed. Sometimes it can seem like there are so many changes to make, so many things I am doing wrong. I still drive a minivan, I shower a bit too long and I let my kids play in the sprinkler on a hot day – to name just a few.
So when I start to feel like I am just not green enough, I stop and think about the things that I am doing right, the decisions I make every day that are making a difference – the natural cleaning products I use, the organic and locally grown fruits and vegetables I buy, the recycling I do, the electricity I try to conserve, etc.
When we stop and look at the changes we already have made and the small changes we can start to make, we keep ourselves moving in the right direction. Perhaps getting so intimidated by the idea of being green, or believing that we can never actually make enough of a difference through our lifestyle choices is as dangerous as ignorance. I am a light shade of green. Put me next to a rich, deep green and yes I may feel insecure about my pale color.
But I am an ever changing, ever evolving person. With each step I take to live a more organic, healthier, earth friendly lifestyle, I feel better about the decisions I am making for myself, my family and the planet.
